    In Ontario, laboratories are accredited by the Ontario Laboratory Accreditation (OLA) program and the Quality Management Program – Laboratory Services (QMPLS), with requirements based on ISO Standard 15189.  While these requirements state that validated procedures must be used, the extent of method validation, the performance characteristics measured and the approach to validation are left to the discretion of the laboratory.  This workshop is designed to provide laboratories with a practical guide to validation of quantitative methods and instrumentation.

    In addition, laboratories seeking certification under ISO 15189 are required to determine the Uncertainty of Measurement where relevant and possible. In his presentation during this workshop, Dr. Moses will discuss various international efforts to estimate measurement uncertainty and describe some of the proposed alternative approaches to this issue.  He also will present and demonstrate a new Uncertainty Calculator tool developed with Dr. Isolde Seiden Long, Clinical Chemist, Gamma-Dynacare Medical Laboratories.  Dr. Moses’ presentation will be available on Gamma-Dynacare’s web site (Media section, Posters and Publications page) at the following link:

    Gamma-Dynacare Medical Laboratories announced today that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Central Medical Laboratories, Manitoba’s largest private provider of community laboratory services. The transaction is expected to close December 1, 2008.

    “We welcome this opportunity to significantly enhance our operational presence in Manitoba, where we provide reference laboratory services to a number of hospitals and occupational testing services for corporate clients,” said Naseem Somani, Chief Executive Officer, Gamma-Dynacare Medical Laboratories. “Central Medical Laboratories is a leader in the Manitoba laboratory services sector, with a long history of active involvement in the Manitoba medical community and a very clear focus on supporting excellent patient care. The company brings to Gamma-Dynacare well-established facilities and resources with which to serve our growing client base in Western Canada.”

    Gamma-Dynacare Medical Laboratories has been named one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers for 2009 and one of the Greater Toronto Area’s Top 75 Employers by Mediacorp Canada, Inc.
