Changes to OHIP Coverage of Vitamin D Testing
Beginning December 1, 2010, OHIP will only cover the cost of a 25-hydroxy vitamin D test for people with the following conditions:
For people without the medical conditions listed above, the cost of a vitamin D test will no longer be covered by OHIP. Physicians and nurse practitioners can still order them, but patients will be responsible for payment.
The laboratory requisition form must indicate whether the patient is eligible for an OHIP-insured test – if the form does not indicate this, the patient will have to pay for the test.
