  • Routine Testing for Diagnosis of Urogenital Syndromes

    In August 2009, Gamma-Dynacare Medical Laboratories began testing for Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae (GC) with one sample, either GenProbe Unisex swab or urine. Because the Gen-Probe Nucleic Acid-based assay represents an improvement over culture, we plan to discontinue routine testing for GC on vaginal swabs, effective July 5, 2010.   • Introduction of Safety-Engineered Needles

    Gamma-Dynacare is in the process of converting to the use of safety-engineered needles for blood collection.  Effective immediately, when you request blood collection needles, we will be issuing the BD Eclipse safety-engineered needles. We are currently updating our supply requisitions accordingly. After July 1, please return any unused boxes of conventional needles to us.  For more information, please see the Client Notice below.

  • Introduction of Roche Modular Automation System

    During the month of July, Gamma-Dynacare Medical Laboratories will be phasing in a thoroughly evaluated new Immunoassay analyzer. The introduction of the Roche E170 methodology will result in changes to some reference intervals. These changes are summarized in the Client Notice below and the new reference intervals will be clearly indicated on patient reports.

  • Formalin Fixation Time and Immunohistochemistry

    As documented in published recommendations and literature, the time that tissues are immersed in 10% Neutral Buffered Formalin affects the reactivity of many antigens detected using immunohistochemistry (IHC). Therefore, to ensure optimal quality, when completing the Histopathology Requisition Form, it is essential that you indicate the date and time that the specimen was placed into 10% Neutral Buffered Formalin. For more information, please see the Client Notice below.

  • Changes to Lupus Anticoagulant (LA) testing

    Gamma-Dynacare recently received notification from our specialized coagulation reference laboratory at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre of impending changes to their lupus anticoagulant panel testing algorithm to be implemented February 1st, 2010.

    The new panel will include PTT testing with a Lupus sensitive reagent as a “screening” test for LA. The dilute Russell Viper Venom test will continue to be used as the second screening test. For more information, please see the Client Notice below.
