Naseem Somani
Chief Executive Officer

Ms. Somani has served as Gamma-Dynacare’s Chief Executive Officer since 2005. She began her laboratory industry career in 1987 as Controller with Park-Med Laboratories, subsequently becoming Director of Finance with Dynacare Medical Laboratories, which acquired Park-Med in 1991. She became Vice-President of Operations and General Manager of the Central Ontario Division in 1996 and led the consolidation of Dynacare’s Brampton Division with Gamma North Peel Laboratory, which created the largest laboratory of its kind in Ontario. She was appointed Senior Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer in 1998. Since becoming CEO in 2005, Ms. Somani has led Gamma-Dynacare’s expansion into Quebec, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Ms. Somani is a Board Member and Director of the Ontario Association of Medical Laboratories (OAML) and has served as past Chair of the OAML. She has served on numerous committees in the healthcare industry during her career. In 2001, Ms. Somani was selected by the Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce as its Professional Woman of the Year, in recognition of her exceptional accomplishments and positive impact on her business, her community and society in general, Ms. Somani holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Finance degree from the University of Toronto and is a Chartered Accountant. Prior to joining the laboratory industry, Ms. Somani worked for Deloitte, Haskins and Sells.

 

Vito Ciciretto
Vice-President, Laboratory Operations and Customer Service

Mr. Ciciretto joined Gamma-Dynacare in January 2009, bringing more than 20 years of experience in general management, manufacturing and finance to his role. Prior to joining Gamma-Dynacare, Mr. Ciciretto was Chief Operating Officer of Algonquin Power Income Fund, a public power and infrastructure company with 400 people in more than 80 sites across North America. Prior to that, he served in various executive positions over a 16-year period with Honeywell Aerospace, including Executive Program Director, General Manager of the Electronic Controls/Electric Power Division and Controller. His academic background includes a Bachelor of Business Management degree from Ryerson University and a Masters of Business Administration degree from York University. Mr. Ciciretto also holds a Certified Management Accounting designation with the Society of Management Accountants of Ontario and a Program Management Professional (PMP) designation from the Program Management Institute.

 

Craig Ivany
Vice-President, Patient Services and Logistics

Mr. Ivany joined Gamma-Dynacare in 2004 as General Manager of the company’s Saskatchewan operations, bringing more than 18 years of operations experience in the health services industry to his role. In 2006, he assumed additional accountability for Gamma-Dynacare’s Central Ontario Division before taking a position with Dynacare-Kasper Laboratories in Alberta. He re-joined Gamma-Dynacare in 2008 as Vice-President, Patient Services and Logistics. Prior to Gamma-Dynacare, Mr. Ivany held progressively senior management roles with such organizations as Canadian Blood Services, the Canadian Red Cross and Clarenville Area Hospital in Newfoundland. His academic background includes a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons.) degree from Memorial University of Newfoundland and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of British Columbia. Mr. Ivany holds a Certified Health Executive designation with the Canadian College of Health Services Executives.

 

Greg Rutherford
Vice-President, Sales and Marketing

Mr. Rutherford joined Gamma-Dynacare in March 2009, bringing 25 years of North American sales and marketing experience to his role. During his career, he has held progressively senior leadership roles with such organizations as Johnson & Johnson, Hoffman-La Roche Ltd., Eli Lilly Ltd. and Glaxo Pharmaceuticals Ltd. His career experience includes accountability for regional and global sales and marketing teams, product management, market research and strategic planning. Mr. Rutherford’s academic background includes a Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) degree from the University of Toronto.

 

Jeff Sumner
Vice-President, Clinical Development and Quality Assurance

Mr. Sumner joined Gamma-Dynacare in 1998, serving as Vice-President and General Manager of the Central Ontario Division until 2005, when he was appointed to his current role. His previous management positions include Director of Diagnostic Laboratories at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto and at McKellar Hospital in Thunder Bay where he also held teaching appointments at the Thunder Bay Institute of Medical Technology and Lakehead University. Mr. Sumner represents the Ontario Association of Medical Laboratories on the Advisory Council of the Quality Management Program-Laboratory Services, where he previously was a member of the Hematology Scientific Committee. Educated in the UK, Mr. Sumner obtained an HNC in Medical Laboratory Sciences from Trent University, a Masters degree in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Sheffield and a Council for National Academic Awards Diploma in Management Studies from the University of Exeter Business School. Mr. Sumner is a Chartered Scientist, a Fellow of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences (UK) and is a registered MLT with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario.

 

Pierre Belanger
Vice-President, Human Resources and Talent Management

Mr. Belanger’s career background includes more than 25 years of managerial experience in human resources. He joined Gamma-Dynacare as Human Resources Manager, Central Ontario Region in 1993, was promoted to Ontario Director of HR in 1996 and to his current position in 2002. Prior to joining Gamma-Dynacare, Mr. Belanger held senior human resources roles with companies in the manufacturing and retail sectors. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from McMaster University and is a Certified Human Resources Professional with the Human Resources Professionals Association of Ontario. Mr. Belanger is a past Board member of  Sci-Tech Ontario, now called Youth Science Ontario.

 

Joel Goodman, PhD, FCACB
Vice-President, Strategies and Innovation

Dr. Goodman brings more than 30 years of clinical and business experience in the laboratory industry to his role. He studied with Nobel Laureate Sir Hans Krebs at Oxford, UK and thereafter obtained his doctorate degree from the University of Toronto. Dr. Goodman purchased Gamma Biopath Laboratory in partnership with the Silver family in 1976. He became President of Park-Med Laboratories in 1983 and subsequently purchased both Park-Med and Lakeshore Laboratories, both of which were subsequently sold to Dynacare Laboratories in 1989. He was appointed Head of Clinical Operations with Dynacare Laboratories in 1996, moving to Dallas, Texas, in 2001 to become Senior Vice-President, Scientific Affairs and Chief Science Officer with Dynacare’s US operations, which included eight central laboratories, a medical genetics laboratory and numerous specimen collection centres. Dr. Goodman returned to Canada and was appointed to his current position in 2003.  Dr. Goodman is a past Chairperson of the Ontario Medical Association’s Advisory Panel on Laboratory Accreditation for the Quality Management Program – Laboratory Services (QMP-LS). Currently, he is a member of the Quality Assurance Committee of the Ontario Association of Medical Laboratories (OAML), a certified assessor with the OLA Program and Chair of the Fecal Occult Blood Test (FOBT) Quality of Care Committee for Cancer Care Ontario’s FOBT screening program. An active contributor to scientific and medical journals, Dr. Goodman has authored or co-authored a number of published papers and articles.  In addition to his doctorate degree, Dr. Goodman holds a Diploma in Clinical Chemistry from the University of Toronto, Certification with the Canadian Society of Clinical Chemists and is a Founding Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Clinical Biochemistry.
 

Scott Hickey
Vice-President, Strategic Planning and Corporate Communications

Mr. Hickey joined Gamma-Dynacare in 2000, bringing extensive experience in the public healthcare sector to his role. He joined Gamma-Dynacare as Ontario Project Director, later adding Marketing and Sales to his portfolio of accountabilities. In 2005, he was appointed Associate Vice-President, Corporate Planning and Strategic Initiatives and in 2006, became Vice-President and General Manager of the Central Ontario Division. He was appointed to his current role in October 2007. Prior to joining Gamma-Dynacare, Mr. Hickey served as Administrative Director of Mount Sinai Hospital’s Samuel Lunenfeld Research Institute and prior to that, held management positions at the Clarke Institute of Psychiatry in Toronto. Mr. Hickey holds Master of Business Administration and Master of Health Science degrees from the University of Toronto as well as a Bachelor of Science (Hons.) degree in Molecular Biology and Genetics from the University of Guelph.

 

Brad Neufeld
Vice-President, Legal and Chief Privacy Officer

Mr. Neufeld joined Gamma-Dynacare in 2007 and was appointed to his current position in November 2008. Mr. Neufeld’s career experience includes corporate law, regulatory compliance and litigation roles across several industries, including telecommunications, manufacturing and financial services. Prior to joining Gamma-Dynacare, Mr. Neufeld served as corporate counsel to Telus Communications, Royal Group Technologies Ltd. and Zurich Insurance Company. He began his legal career in private practice at a large boutique downtown Toronto law firm. In addition to a Bachelor of Commerce degree from McGill University, Mr. Neufeld holds a Bachelor of Laws degree and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Windsor. Mr. Neufeld was called to the Bar in Ontario in 2002.

 

Chuck Quigley
Vice-President, Information Systems and Program Management Office

Mr. Quigley joined Gamma-Dynacare in 2000, bringing more than 20 years of information systems experience to the company. His career experience includes systems analysis and design with IBM, a senior consulting role to companies in various industry sectors with Arthur Andersen Consulting, and information systems management at CCL Industries’ Label Division with manufacturing locations throughout Canada, the United States and Mexico. Mr. Quigley is a Professional Engineer and holds a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Systems Design Engineering from the University of Waterloo.

 

Walt Stothers
Vice-President, Finance and Chief Financial Officer

Mr. Stothers joined Gamma-Dynacare as Chief Financial Officer in 2004, bringing more than a decade of financial leadership experience to his role. Prior to joining Gamma-Dynacare, Mr. Stothers was with Mosaic Sales Solutions for five years, latterly serving as Senior Vice-President, Finance. His career background also includes seven years of progressively senior public accounting experience with KPMG LLP. A Chartered Accountant, Mr. Stothers holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the University of Wales and a Master of Business Administration degree from Queen’s University.
